In Sanskrit Shilajit means "conqueror of mountains & destroyer of weakness". It is used in Ayurveda as an herbal rejuvenator, nervine tonic and natural stimulator. It has been shown to be a natural antioxidant and rejuvenator for the nervous system.
There are very few herbs that are classified as a panacea but Shilajit is one of them. It will help carry the other herbal support into the deep tissues of the body. This is why is works so well on diabetes and insulin resistance -- because it carries the blood sugar into the resistant cells. In the same way it helps to rejuvenate the body and nervous system on a very deep level. It is not a stimulant to make you feel more energy -- it actually helps to rebuild the nervous system.
Analysis of Shilajit reveals that it is high in naturally occurring minerals and elements. Shilajit is Mother Nature's original organic Colloidal multi-mineral supplement with self assimilation qualities as compared to inorganic colloidal sources. And yet Shilajit is much more than colloidal minerals. It has unique properties not found in any other natural preparation.
There is a folk saying by the indigenous people who live in the Himalayan region that Shilajit makes the body strong as a rock and there are some rock-like qualities in Shilajit. There is hardly a disease that cannot be cured or least helped by Shilajit.
Shilajit amplifies the benefits of other herbs by enhancing their bio-availability. It helps transport nutrients deep into the tissue and removes deep-seated toxins. Shilajit improves memory and the ability to handle stress. Shilajit reduces recovery time in muscle, bone and nerve injuries. Shilajit stimulates the immune system and reduces chronic fatigue.
It is an adaptogen, (Rasayna), that helps to combat immune disorders, urinary tract disorders, nervous disorders and sexual dissatisfaction. It promotes strong bones and heals damaged muscle tissues and osteoarthritis.
Our health is more dependent on minerals than on protein, carbohydrates or vitamins. Minerals are on every cell of the body and are vital for our overall mental and physical well being. The body cannot manufacture any minerals. They must be obtained via diet. Due to depletion of minerals in the soil and in order to get enough minerals from the typical diet, we would have to eat more than we could possibly want to. The majority of the population is deficient in the 84 minerals required by the body and mind. The inevitable result is reduced health and longevity.
The ancient medical literature attributes many health benefits to Shilajit known as the destroyer of weakness. Shilajit has been used historically for general physical strengthening, anti-aging, blood sugar stabilization, libido enhancement, injury healing, urinary tract rejuvenation, enhanced brain function, bone healing, kidney rejuvenation, immune system strengthening, arthritis, hypertension, obesity and many other applications for numerous conditions.
Traditionally Shilajit was designed for countering Diabetes, regulating the blood sugar level, improving pancreas function, purifying the blood, improving spleen function, strengthening digestion, improving metabolism, reducing fat, dissolving tumors, reducing tiredness, counteracting thirst, as a powerful rejuvenator, and as a sexual enhancer
CHEMISTRY: The porous fulvic acid and humic acids in Shilajit carry herbal compounds deeply into the tissues of the body. These porous carrying cavities also hook toxins and escort them out of the body.
SOURCE: Shilajit is obtained from rocks in the Himalayan region. It is a form of mineral that drips from the cracks of the rocks during hot weather. It is the decomposition of plant matter in the rocks from thousands and ten of thousands of years in the past. The bio transformed plant matter is extruded from the rocks by geothermal pressures. It is collected in raw form for further purification. Walking high in the Himalayan Mountains, a thick rich paste oozing out from the rocks in the towering cliffs is Shilajit. It increases the core energy responsible for sexual and spiritual power, the same force that is withered by stress and anxiety. Shilajit is well known for renewing vitality.

Shilajit in Sanskrit means "conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness". It comes from the rocks in the lower Himalayas and is the most important natural remedy of Ayurvedic medicine. The active principle of shilajit is fulvic acid. Traditionally considered a panacea and a strong kidney tonic, it increases the core energy responsible for your sexual and spiritual power, the same force that is withered by stress and anxiety.
Shilajit is the most important natural remedy of Ayurvedic and folk-medicine systems. Its active principle is fulvic acid. Shilajit, also known as mineral pitch, comes from the rocks in the lower Himalayas during the warm, summer months.
Shilajit is used by the indigenous system of medicine in India, Hakims and Vaids and traditional healers, in a great variety of diseases: genitourinary diseases, diabetes, chronic bronchitis, asthma, gall stones, jaundice, painful and bleeding piles, epilepsy, enlarged liver and spleen, fermentative dyspepsia, digestive disorders, worms, renal and bladder calculi, nervous debility, sexual neurasthenia, hysteria, anaemia and in bone fracture. The discovery is said to be made by Himalayan villagers observing large white monkeys migrate to the mountains in the warm summer months. The monkeys were seen to be chewing a semi-soft substance that flowed from between layers of rock. The villagers attributed the monkey's great strength, longevity and wisdom to the substance. They began to consume it themselves and reported a broad spectrum of improvements in health.
Ancient Sanskrit holy texts, over 3,000 years old, make reference to a mysterious substance called shilajit, which they describe as the "destroyer of weakness." The texts list its powerful health and spiritual benefits and the positive changes that shilajit brought in the lives of those who used it. The sacred substance was prescribed for thousands of years for many different health problems and became a powerful tool in Ayurvedic medicine. There is some indication that shilajit may have been the priceless soma of the Eastern alchemists.
About 200 million years ago, India was a large island off the Australian coast separated from the Eurasian continent by the Tethys Sea. The Indian continent drifted north at a rate of about 9 meters a century. This movement lead to the eventual disappearance of the Tethys Sea. 40 to 50 million years ago the Indian continent collided with the Asian continent. This caused the seabed of the Tethys Sea to be pushed up and keep moving up to eventually form the Himalayan Mountains. The Himalayan Mountains continue to rise more than 1 Centimeter a year. During this transition the mineral rich and fertile soil of the seabed gave rise to a lush and dense tropical jungle. As the ground continued to be pushed up to become mountains a lot of the plants became trapped by layers of rock and soil and remained preserved for thousands of years. These plants had never been exposed to any chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides. They are gradually transformed into Humus, a rich organic mass that is food for new plant life. Due to microbial action and the tremendous pressure from the weight of the mountains the Humus was transformed into a dense, viscous, mineral rich mass. The trapped layers of Shilajit become exposed due to the freezing winters, hot summer sun and erosion from monsoon rains. Shilajit will "flow" out from between the cracks in the layers of rock during the summer when the temperature of the mountains gets warm enough and the Shilajit becomes less viscous. The native Nepali people them climb the mountains, repel down cliffs to collect the Shilajit.
This organic matter is composed of a large variety of minerals. Millions of years ago, before the Himalayas were formed, a lush garden flourished in a vast fertile valley. The vegetation in that primeval garden became trapped and preserved as the movement of the continents caused that valley to become the tallest mountain range in the world. Today, millions of years later the monsoon rains and extreme freeze and thaw conditions work together to crack large rock formations, exposing the precious shilajit. Because of its ancient nature, the vegetation was never exposed to any type of fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, or pollution. The native Nepali people collect and carry this gift of nature down the mountain, where it is alchemically processed into a potent, high-quality extract.
This ancient wisdom was passed from generation to generation among the Indian and Nepali alchemists and holy men, but it escaped the notice of the Western medical establishment until the last days of the twentieth century, when explorer John Anderson heard of the amazing benefits of this substance and refused to give up the search until he found its source. He journeyed throughout India and Nepal until he learned of the perilous harvesting the raw shilajit from the cliffs. He also documented the reams of Sanskrit studies showing the rare plant's benefits. He spoke firsthand with more than fifty Indian and Nepalese researchers that have been studying the wonderful effects of shilajit and perfecting the processes for delivering the purest, most concentrated shilajit ever know to man.
Medicinal Properties of Shilajit (excerpts from Dr. Michael Hartman)
There is a lot of research proving Shilajit can help a broad spectrum of health problems. There are many testimonials from people taking Shilajit that have received improvements beyond their expectations. These testimonials indicate that shilajit has to be taken for at least 2 months to give it time to work. Having tonic properties, this substance is useful in a wide variety of treatments. It has been said that there is hardly any curable disease which cannot be assisted with the aid of Shilajit. General debility and fatigue is among the list of ailments which can be helped with Shilajit. The overall action is alterative, tonic, slightly laxative, cholagogue, respiratory stimulant, disinfectant and expectorant, intestinal antiseptic, diuretic, and lithotriptic.
The rediscovery of the power of shilajit is said to have been made by Himalayan villagers observing large white monkeys migrate to the mountains in the warm summer months. The monkeys were seen to be chewing a semi-soft substance that flowed from between layers of rock. The villagers attributed the monkey’s great strength, longevity and wisdom to the strange substance. They began to consume it themselves and reported a broad spectrum of improvements in health. It seemed to give them more energy, relieve digestive problems, Increase sex drive, improve memory and cognition, improve diabetes, reduce allergies, improve the quality and quantity of life and it seemed to cure all diseases.
Pharmacology: The anti-stress and adjuvant effects were evaluated through a battery of tests. Shilajit significantly augmented learning acquisition and memory retrieval in laboratory animals. The action was dedicated by the anti-oxidant defense provided by Shilajit against several reactive oxygen species. 1 Two major organic compounds isolated from Shilajit rats. 2. Processed Shilajit provided complete protection to methacrylate against hydroxyl radical induced polymerization and acted as a reversible nitric oxide-captodative agent. It induced a dose related increase in super oxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase activities in frontal cortex and striatum of rats. These findings are consistent with the therapeutic uses of Shilajit as an Ayurvedic rasayan (rejuvenator) against oxidative stress and geriatric complaints. 3. Aqueous suspension of Shilajit was found to have significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity in rats. Shilajit did not produced any mortality in albino mice up to a dose of 1g/kg, i.p4.
